GHMC’S SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGN GETS AWARD

Impressed by its social media campaign for Swachh Survekshan, the Union ministry for housing and urban affairs on Saturday declared the GHMC winner of the ‘Safai Moments’ award.

GHMC additional commission­er and Swachh Bharat Mission incharge N. Ravi Kiran said the Union ministry was impressed by the social media campaign and GHMC’s initiative­s.

Impressed by its social media campaign for Swachh Survekshan, the Union ministry for housing and urban affairs on Saturday declared the GHMC winner of the ‘Safai Moments’ award.

GHMC additional commission­er and Swachh Bharat Mission incharge N. Ravi Kiran said the Union ministry was impressed by the social media campaign and GHMC’s initiative­s. “It was a surprise for us and a boost to the corporatio­n staff who have been striving hard to keep city clean to a achieve better rank in Swachh Survekshan rankings,” Mr Kiran said.

He said the Centre was tracking the initiative­s taken up by the corporatio­n, which included first of its kind measures to involving sanitation workers in the Swachh awareness campaigns.

“We present you the glorious winner of 'Safai Moments', you were absolutely stunning and we loved all your entries of 'the Safaiwala (sic)” the Union ministry through its handle Swachh Survekshan. The GHMC took the initiative of posting every Swachh activity taken up in the city on Twitter and Facebook. The Centre monitored the posts and adjudged GHMC as the best performer.

The corporatio­n hosted the first-ever abhinandan­a sabha (thanksgivi­ng ceremony) for sweepers and sanitation workers. The beautifica­tion works including vertical gardens at road junctions was also posted in social media platforms.

Among the activities the GHMC undertook for the Swachh Sarvekshan was preparing circle-wise and zone-wise action plan for the developmen­t of basic facilities at schools.

Besides, the corporatio­n held rangoli competitio­ns and organised awareness campaigns on setting up compost units, maintainin­g hygiene in public toilets, imposing fines on hotels, bars, restaurant­s and residents for maintainin­g unhygienic conditions.
