Political war erupts in K’taka

-

Bengaluru: Karnataka’s ruling Congress-JDS coalition and opposition BJP on Monday traded allegations of making a renewed bid to poach MLAs in a fresh political war just ahead of the Lok Sabha polls. Amid reports that six to eight Congress MLAs are ready to cross over to the BJP, CM H.D. Kumaraswamy said he has “sufficient numbers” to run a stable government.

New Delhi, Jan. 14: The Congress said Monday it has a stable government with the Janata Dal (Secular) in Karnataka and it will remain so despite the BJP’s attempts to break the alliance.

Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was trying to break the Congress-JD(S) alliance in the state and claimed attempts will be made by the saffron party to poach MLAs.

“It is a stable government and it will remain a stable government,” he told reporters.

MLAs name rooms were reserved in which resort, how many rooms were reserved. How many Congress-JD(S) they were making attempts to lure and take them away..don’t I have the information,” he said. “The coalition government enjoys support of 120 MLAs,” he said.

Hitting back, Yeddyurappa told reporters, “despite having majority, CongressJD(S) combine is trying to lure our MLAs and in Karnataka is headed by Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy.

The Congress leader said attempts will be made by the BJP to break the alliance by poaching its MLAs, but it will not be successful.

Khera said the BJP instead of making such attempts should instead focus on issues concerning the public.

On Kumaraswamy’s comments that the JD(S) should not be treated as a ‘third-grade citizen’ in seat sharing arrangement for the Lok Sabha polls, the Congress leader said he is not aware of such a statement.

indulging in horse-trading, BJP is not doing it. We with 104 MLAs are ready to work as opposition peacefully.”

Accusing the CongressJD(S) coalition of trying to create confusion, he asked it to focus on developmental works and said BJP was ready to function as a “sincere” opposition.

“They are trying to lure our people with money and Minister’s position. We have not done this to any Congress-JD(S)

“When talks are on, such things happen. This is a process of negotiation .... In this process, we hear such things. You look at Shiv Sena, they are making all kinds of statements against the BJP” Khera said as he sought to downplay the JD(S) leader’s remarks.

As Karnataka’s ruling coalition constituents Congress and JD(S) get down to brass tacks for the Lok Sabha polls, Kumaraswamy had said that his party should not be treated as “third grade citizen” and the partners should adopt a “give and take policy” to put up a united fight against the BJP.

MLAs. Kumaraswamy doing it,” he added.

Yeddyurappa said the BJP legislators would be in New Delhi for “one or two days” and would later go to their constituencies and begin preparations for the Lok Sabha polls in all the 28 constituencies.

Reports suggest that BJP legislators in Delhi were likely to be shifted to Gurgaon, to keep its numbers in tact, with Congress and JD(S) allegedly planning to poach BJP MLAs.
