SEPARATE TELANGANA URGED

-

BY A STAFF REPORTER

HYDERABAD, JAN. 18 The Osmania University Students Action Committee at an emergent meeting here today condemned the brutal intervention of the Police on a peaceful procession of the students wending its way towards the old MLA Quarters to conduct a peaceful meeting for educating the people about the Telangana agitation.

The Committee alleged that the police to suppress the mass movement found an excuse to beat the students mercilessly, when the two peaceful processions came face to face at Abids on the plea of averting a clash.

The Action Committee strongly condemned the “barbaric and brutal assault” on Mr. Ramakanth, President University Arts College by a Sub-Inspector of Police. Ramakanth, the Committee said was seriously wounded on the head and was admitted in the Osmania Hospital with six stitches on his head. The Police also beat many of the student leaders who were actually trying to calm the students, the Committee said.

The Action Committee made it clear that the students were not responsible for the burning of the car as was being alleged by the Police. The fire, according to the Committee was caused by the explosion of a tear gas shell in the engine of the car whose bonnet was open.

The Government must pay compensation to the owner of the car as the fault was of the Police, the Action Committee said.

The Action Committee appealed to the leaders of the Safeguards Movement to forget the differences and unite with them on a common platform to “give a good fight to the police zulum and Government’s injustice towards the Telangana people.”
