- RAJESWARI PARASA | DC

■ The first JEE (Main) was conducted in two shifts in a day across

258 cities in the country and abroad.

■ 9,29,198 candidates were registered for Paper-I (B.E./B.Tech.)

■ There were 467 examination centres across the country and abroad.

Of the 15 students in the country who have achieved a perfect 100 per cent in the Joint Entrance Examinations (JEE)Mains, four are from Telangana state.

The exam was held between January 8 and January 12 and conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The results were out on Saturday, 12 days in advance of the expected date, and for the first time the scores were released in percentile format, which is more scientific.

According to the ministry of human resource development, the NTA has made use of advanced technology to release the results in advance and thus relieve students of the suspense of waiting. As announced earlier, the second JEE Mains exam will be held after three months. Students who have already qualified can also take the test a second time to improve their scores.

Prakash Javadekar, minister for human resources development, said, “Ranks will be declared after the second JEE to be held in April. For the first time students have a chance to improve their performance. This is the NDA government caring for students and trying to reduce exam stress.” The toppers from Telangana are now aiming for the JEE Advanced. The JEE Mains allows admission to the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and Indian Institutes of Information of Technology (IIITs) and other centrally funded technical institutes, whereas JEE Advanced gives entry into to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). Of the four toppers who all studied in Telangana state, two are from Andhra Pradesh.
