New trammels to prioritise fresh trash at dump yard

- DC CORRESPONDENT

There is a hope for residents around Jawaharnagar who are subjected to nauseous smell emanating from the dumping yard.

The government has ordered the concessionaire to operationalise all four newly installed trammels to clear the garbage waiting on the tipping floor.

This will exhaust the accumulated garbage, which is the main cause for odour in the locality, within one month, municipal administration and urban development principal secretary Arvind Kumar said on Thursday.

He was inspecting the garbage treatment and disposal facility at the Jawaharnagar yard and took stock of the progress in the work including capping of the old dump.

Mr Kumar inquired about the construction procedure of all the layers of capping work. He observed that the profiling and impervious soil layer was completed to the extent of 90 per cent and laying of geo-synthetic liner, HDPE liner, geo-composite liner and top layer of vegetation was in brisk progress.

He visited the plastic recyclable plant capacity which was processing 5-6 tonnes of plastic recyclable waste at present.

Mr Kumar inspected the construction of the 19.8 MW waste to energy plant which is in progress and is likely to be commissioned by the year end.

He instructed the concessionaire to stick to the timelines and ensure that capping of the legacy dump including greenery is completed by May.

He directed additional commissioner S. Srinivas Reddy to organise rag-pickers at the transfer stations.
