The Hussaini Alam police on Thursday received a complaint from a girl against one Mohammed Pasha, resident of Hussaini Alam, complaining that he was harassing her to convert to Islam.

According to Charminar ACP B. Anjaiah, the Hussaini Alam police received the complaint that Pasha was offering to marry her in return for her converting and was threatening to kill her brother if she refused. Mr Anjaiah said the complaint would be investigated and the police would take action in accordance with the law.

He said if evidence was found, the case would attract IPC Sections 506 (criminal intimidation) and 509 (insulting the modesty of a woman).

Sources said that younger sister of the complainant had married a Muslim youth two years back and the family has a girl child. She separated from her husband by obtaining khula (divorce sought by a woman).

Meanwhile, there was a controversy over the police allegedly roughing up a journalist. Hussaini Alam station house officer Ramesh Kotwal said that the person who introduced himself as Kranthi was taking he statement of the complainant in the vicinity of police station to which the police objected.

The police denied that he was assaulted, and said he was the administrator of a Facebook page and not a journalist.
