PM: Citizenship Bill won’t harm Assam

- DC CORRESPONDENT

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that citizenship amendment bill is not going to harm the interest of the people living in Assam and Northeast and accused that some political parties have been trying to create confusion by spreading false rumor.

Addressing a mammoth public rally at Changsari in outskirt of Guwahati, Mr Modi said, “It is a national commitment to the people of the Northeast that they will not be harmed in any way and citizenship will be only granted after due investigation and recommendation of the state governments.”

He argued, “There is a difference between those who forcefully entered the country and those who were “forced to flee their homes to save their lives due to their faith. Both are not the same.”

“We have committed to provide shelter to those who are minorities in neighbouring countries and had to leave everything due to the atrocities inflicted on them. They have come to our country and embraced the idea and ethos of Mother India,” he said.

He asserted, “Those who sit in AC rooms in Delhi and fight us in the parliament are spreading misinformation about the citizenship bill. To rid Assam and country of infiltrators, we’ve always strengthened voice of people. That is why we did Chitmahal agreement and are working towards completely sealing IndiaBangladesh border.”
