P.M.’s stress on scientific farming
TIRUPATI, Feb. 9 PRIME MINISTER, Mrs Indira Gandhi, today stressed the need for a nation-wide campaign for making farmers understand new scientific techniques of cultivation. Delivering the Convocation Address of the Agricultural University here, the Prime Minister and selfreliance in agriculture would be the key note of the Fourth Plan to be launched in the next two months.
The country had neglected agriculture in the past three Plan periods since “we could not choose in between industry and agriculture because both were important and once was complementary to the other,” she said.
Mrs. Gandhi said agricultural strategy was now advancing, but high production alone could not solve the problem unless the products of agriculture were properly distributed.
