Mother marries

Hyderabad: A woman and her brother were convicted for performing a minor’s marriage with her sibling. The court imprisoned the woman for a year and her brother for two years on Wednesday. In 2017, the Pahadishareef police booked a case against Bhagya Laxmi and her brother Anand, for marrying the former’s daughter, who was 17-year-old then. Bhagya Laxmi had married her off to Anand in 2015, without the girl’s consent. A case was registered under Sections 9 and 10 of Prohibition Of Child Marriage Act. After investigating, the case was charge-sheeted in Fifteenth Metropolitan Magistrate Court at LB Nagar, which conducted a trial and held the accused duo guilty. The court imposed a fine `Rs 1,000 on the mother and `2,000 on the man.
