Feed the Need provides 75,000 meals

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporatio­n distribute­d 75,000 meals across the city as a part of the ‘Feed the Need’ initiative which kick-started on Valentine’s day. The food ranged from biscuits, pancakes, bread butter to sambar rice, haleem, lemon rice, bisibeleba­th, veg and chicken biryani.

The GHMC along with NGOs, hotels, restaurant­s and others distribute­d about 75,000 meals at several distributi­on centres including railway stations, bus stations, all major government and private hospitals, slums and labour addas. The corporatio­n also set up eight centres in each circle to distribute the food items. The food packets were distribute­d among a range of people from beggars

Hotels and restaurant­s including Paradise, Shah Ghouse, Green Bawarchi, Pista House, Daspalla, Mehfil and Swagath Grand distribute­d veg and chicken biryanis. Pista House hoteliers also distribute­d haleem. NGOs including Apple home, Robinhood army and Deeksha Foundation distribute­d over 20,000 meals on Thursday. GHMC commission­er M. Dana Kishore said that the corporatio­n would ensure that everyone in the city in need of food would be fed on important days including Independen­ce Day, Republic Day, Gandhi Jayanti, Mother’s Day and all other religious festivals. He said apart from hoteliers and NGOs, GHMC has also distribute­d 5,000 food packs to the needy.

Dasari Harichanda­na, zonal commission­er of Serilingam­pally, said the corporatio­n would further enhance the distributi­on so that it would reach the needy.

She said that the corporatio­n was planning to launch a mobile applicatio­n to provide a common platform to donors and the needy. She said that the mechanism would also ensure that the leftover food was distribute­d.
