- DC CORRESPONDENT

As many as 468 revellers were imprisoned and 108 violators’ driving licences were cancelled for driving in an inebriated condition in the last 15 days.

During the special drive on drunken drivers, as many as 1,788 drunk driving cases were registered and a fine of `38 lakh was imposed.

However, penalties and counselling sessions seem to have little effect on the motorists as drunk driving cases are regularly being registered in the city.

Four persons were sentenced to one month imprisonment and 200 violators were imprisoned for two days.

The III and IV Metropolitan Magistrate Courts in Nampally, imprisoned 468 respondents for a period of two days to one month.

In addition to drunk driving cases, one violator was also jailed for three days for dangerous driving.

Anil Kumar, traffic additional commissioner of police, said, “Driving licences of repeat offenders would be cancelled. Innocent people are facing issues due to their negligence. We request citizens to avoid drunk driving for the safety of other road users and themselves.”

Violators were also counselled at the Traffic Training Institute (TTI), Goshamahal and Begumpet.
