Hyderabad: The CCS Police arrested an absconding cheating case offender on Sunday, who was on the run for eight years. The NBW (Non-bailable Warrant) Team of CCS arrested the accused, Pagadala Rakesh Kumar, 40, resident of Habsiguda, presently residing in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh police said, adding that he was involved in two cheating cases of CCS Hyderabad in 2012 and 2016 and two cases in Cyberabad area. The victims paid him an amount of `64 lakh to purchase five flats, after receiving which Rakesh and his associate, J. Veerabhadr­a Rao, raised the initial basic structure but later abandoned the work. “They gave false promises to complete the apartment and diverted the funds to develop their other business. The land owner, N. Subramanya­m Verma, cancelled the agreement soon and filed a complaint,” said the DCP, CCS, Avinash Mohanty. Veerabhadr­a Rao was arrested on July 11, 2011. Rakesh was arrested but was released on bail. “While under trial Rakesh jumped bail and the court issued NBW against him,” police said.
