Top BJP leaders are eyeing the Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituency for the forthcoming general elections. Apart from sitting MP Bandaru Dattatreya, BJP state president Dr K. Laxman and G. Kishan Reddy are doing their best to grab the seat for BJP.

Mr Dattatreya has won from the Secunderabad Lok Sabha segment four times. This has given confidence to the other leaders that the BJP has a hold on this constituency. Dr Laxman and Mr Kishan Reddy, who had contested from Musheerabad and Amberpet respectively in the recent Assembly elections, lost their deposits.

Although Dr Laxman and Mr Reddy are ready to contest from any Lok Sabha constituency, their focus is on Secunderabad seat which also comprises the Musheerabad and Amberpet Assembly segments.

Considering the age factor, the BJP leaders are expecting that Mr Dattatreya will be out of the race. The party is of the opinion that Secunderabad is a seat that favours BCs and this would be an advantage to Dr Laxman.

A BJP leader said, “Mr Kishan Reddy is aiming at Malkajgiri Lok Sabha constituency too. If Mr Dattatreya is out of the race, being a BC seat, the high command may consider Dr Laxman for the seat. Mr Kishan Reddy lost the Assembly elections by a few votes. He is a charismatic leader and he can win from Malkajgiri too. But he has not revealed his interests.”

The party will begin selection of candidates from the first week of March. Till March 2, there are some party programs and the party will also consider the participation of the aspirants while finalising the candidates.
