US troops in Hyd for special training

- COREENA SUARES | DC

The United States Military Forces from the 1st Battalion, an elite Group (Airborne) stationed out of Okinawa, Japan, are in Hyderabad for special training for conflict prevention and crisis management.

Along with the Indian National Security Guard (NSG), the US troop is undergoing joint exercises at the Southern Regional Center (SRC) in Ibrahimpatnam, Hyderabad.

The training is learned to be critical to the US Special Operations Forces, as the soldiers are still learning how to effectively work with Indian partners in new climatic environments.

The US military is working with India to boost interoperability, build partner capacity, prevent conflict, and to promote regional strength throughout the Indo-Pacific region.

The training envisaged on mutual defense operations so that both the nations can effectively employ forces and assist each other in the event of crises that may endanger public health and safety.

“The Hyderabad exercise will help build interoperability and comradeship between the two forces and is designed to enhance the capabilities of both, the Indian and the US armed forces. The US-India security partnership is strong, and growing stronger,” said the U.S. Consul General Katherine Hadda.

“This Special Forces exercise in Hyderabad further advances our countries' operational coordination, and it will clearly benefit both our nations,” the consul general added.

The training events are part of US Indo-Pacific Command’s Theater Security Cooperation Program conducted by the US military with a select group of nations in the Indo-Pacific region. The exercise is being overseen by the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi and the U.S. Special Operations Pacific Command at Camp H.M. Smith in Hawaii.

The US considers India as its Major Defense Partner. Additionally, Hyderabad has become a hub of US-Indian defense manufacturing including joint-venture facilities, technology centers, and skills-development capacity.
