Doctors bat for diagnostic labs
In a meeting with health minister Etala Rajender on Saturday, government doctors stressed on the importance of creating a centralised diagnostic centre for government hospitals.
Doctors explained that government hospitals comprised four to six diagnostic laboratories conducting all diagnostic tests and as a result of which, they were fleecing their patients.
They stated that there was an urgent need to put an infrastructure in place for accurate diagnosis and procurement of medicines along with adequate nursing staff in order to effectively address the concerns of every patient.
Further, the doctors demanded that their pending promotions must be processed and that all the posts must be filled on the basis of seniority.
Dr Nara Hari, a senior member of the Telangana State Government Doctors Association, explained, “The posts of the superintendent and the other additional posts in hospitals and in the directorate must be filled on the basis of seniority.
WITH THE TS government stressing on normal deliveries, there is a dearth of specialists to carry them out in government hospitals. With the existing doctors going through severe stress, there is a need to recruit more suitable doctors. Additionally, all hospitals are suffering from a scarcity of nursing staff, and that needs urgent attention, too.”
The doctors suggested that the heads of departments should be appointed as members of the recruitment board. They also said that the conveniences that were promised to them by the Directorate of Health in terms of health cards are yet to be provided.
“Government doctors in these departments have not been receiving benefits as per the government schemes.”
Lastly, the doctors stated that there had to be strict implementation of policies in order to ensure round-the-clock presence of senior staff and that this, too, needed to be monitored.
