■ Hospital decides to extend medical help to patient’s home

- A. RAVINDRA SESHU | DC

Podem Jyothi, 25, who is in her third trimester of pregnancy, kept the doctors and medical and health staff in Kothagudem district headquarters hospital on their toes. A person named Spurthi Kolipaka, tweeted Jyothi’s photo and her condition to TRS working president K.T. Rama Rao, who responded to her tweet and sent it to the doctors in Kothagudem district headquarters hospital.

Jyothi, resident of Telikalapadu under Paloncha mandal, Gothikoya habitation of Chattisgarh tribals, was carried on a cot till Paloncha and from there in an auto she was taken to the Kothagudem Hospital.

Jyostna who is severely anaemic, is facing difficult health problems.

Her haemoglobin is only 3.86 grams against 10 grams.

The doctors administered one unit of blood and her haemoglobin level went up to 5.2 mg from 3.86 at the time of being admitted in the hospital. In the normal course, a woman should have 12 to 15 gram haemoglobin for a suitable health condition. A pregnant woman should have a minimum of 10 gram haemoglobin in her blood.

The doctors planned to administer another unit of blood on Monday afternoon.

After Mr Rama Rao’s message, the doctors were alerted and started giving her the best treatment. An Aasha worker was deputed to look after her diet and an auxiliary nurse midwifery (ANM) for her health. But Jyothi absconded from the hospital when the Aasha worker went outside for food and the ANM to get blood. She did not even tell her husband who was waiting outside the hospital.

Then, the Aasha worker and ANM apart from Jyotsna’s aunt and husband started searching for her. She was found in an auto at Nataraj Theatre in Paloncha.

She refused to come back to the hospital and decided to go to her house in Telikalapadu. The Asha workers and the ANM tried to convince her, but in vain.

The hospital superintendent G. Ramesh was later informed about the situation. He then decided to extend the medical facility to her at her home. As far as diet is concerned, the Aasha worker has been made incharge of it. Another unit of blood was administered to her on Monday evening.

Hospital superintendent G. Ramesh said, “Jyostna had some hesitation pertaining to the hospital atmosphere and she wanted to go to her house. Her health condition was bad at the time of being admitted but her haemoglobin level came up to 5.2 after administering one unit of blood. Treatment will be given in her house only.”
