New road to cut airport commute Construction of the remaining 220 metres of P7 road was held back due to litigations

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority, after fighting court cases for a decade, has now got permission to construct the P7 road which will pass through the Inner Ring Road to Mailardevpally via Laxmiguda, Jalpally and Mamidipally to the Srisailam Highway.

This road will be built at an estimated cost of `51.54 crore, will be 7.743 km long (including Link Road of 843 mts), and have four lanes. Around 7.223 km of the road was completed in

2013, and the remaining

320 metres was held up due to litigation over two land parcels in Jallpally. But now the municipal authority has decided to go ahead and complete the road which will shorten the distance to RGIA airport by seven kilometres and reduce travel time by at least 20 minutes. Unlike the current road to the airport, which passes through crowded Barkas and Chandrayangutta, the new road will pass through a sparsely populated area, making commuting easier.

According to an HMDA official, the Rangarareddy district collectorate was entrusted with the job of land acquisition for the P7 road in 2008.

HMDA had deposited

`40 crore in the district collectorate's account in

2008 for the land acquisition.

The Rangareddy authorities had completed the land acquisition by

2013 barring 320 metres in two pockets in survey number 145 in Mailardevpally and survey number 67/2 in Jalpally. In 2016 the district collectorate authorities acquired another 100 metres of land and recently the owners who had refused to give their land have agreed to do so following a court order. The district authorities will pay the land owners `3.5 crore.

A senior HMDA official said that the construction of the 220 metre road will be completed at an estimated cost of `5 crore.

He said that the municipal authority had already cleared bills worth `48 crore in 2013 to construct

7.223 km of the P7 road in

2013 to Hindustan Construction Company Limited who had bagged the project.

The tender was closed

immediately after clearing the bills and now HMDA will invite fresh tenders to complete construction of the remaining part of the road.

To further enhance airport connectivity, HMDA has decided to construct a four-lane down ramp from PVNR Expressway at a cost of `9.6 crore and a 600-metre four-lane bridge connecting TSIIC layout given for SEZ for an estimated `40 crore, which will connect with the P7 road.

“The completion of the remaining 220 metres and the two other proposed projects will enhance airport connectivity and ease the burden on Srisailam Road, ensuring a peaceful journey for commuters. The cost will be shared by TSIIC and HMDA as was decided during the tenure of chief secretary S.P. Singh. HMDA will write to TSIIC in a couple of days,” the HMDA official added.
