GANG USES UNLIT ROADS TO ROB PEOPLE, HELD

A 40-year-old man was arrested on Thursday for sexually exploiting a 14year-old, the Shainaythg­unj police said.

The accused, Narayan Indoria, who runs a chaat shop, was a neighbour of the victim in Jumerat Bazaar. The girl used to visit his shop to purchase chaat. He lured her and sexually exploited her about two years ago and it had been continuing since then, police said. The victim recently fell ill and she narrated the ordeal to her mother, who lodged a complaint with the Shainaythg­unj police.

The police registered a case under the POCSO Act and arrested Indoria on Thursday and sent him to judicial custody. A gang of five members which took advantage of secluded and unlit areas in Banjara Hills, targeted passerbys and extorted money from them were arrested by the police on Friday. They are residents of Banjara Hills.

The five accused have been identified as Afsar Ahmed Khan, 24, Shaik Fakruddin, 27, Mohd Saleem, 25, Mohd Afzal, 24, Mohd Sohail, 22, and Mohd Salman, 20, all were doing odd jobs.

According to assistant commission­er of police Banjara Hills K. Srinivasa Rao the five members, who are also cousins, formed a gang and engaged in extortion by scaring passerbys. Based on a complaint from a Mohd Irfanuddin, who took the Road No 5 during late hours on April 9 along with his friend was targeted by this gang. They surrounded them and threatened to hurt them. When Irfan questioned them he was thrashed and robbed.

The accused fled following which Irfan lodged a complaint. The Jubilee Hills police registered a case and nabbed the five accused.
