DRIVER THRASHED
The police beating up the driver of Hyderabad Football Cup for honking continuously could be an overkill. But the seriousness exhibited by the cops was very much needed and I appreciate them (Cops beat driver for excessive hoking, Nov. 8). Buses and two-wheelers resort to unnecessary honking, despite the advice given by the traffic police. The officials should stop the sale and use of prohibited horns.

I commend the police for acting against the driver for excessive honking. Hyderabadi drivers — be it two-wheelers or four-wheelers — have the habit of unnecessary honking. It’s high time the police starts taking action on such erring drivers.

Incessant honking has become one of the biggest irritants on the city roads. Even though one feels like thrashing these drivers, the cops should have shown restraint. Apart from booking the driver for illegal horns, they should have seized the gadget.

It is heartening to note that the traffic police took action against a bus driver for using an air-horn. Although beating the driver smacks of high handedness, sometimes strong medicine is required to cure a growing malaise. All TSRTC buses are fitted with airhorns. Will the traffic police book the drivers of RTC buses and other heavy vehicles also?

It is wrong on the part of cops to take the law into their hands and physically assault a person, just because they are in uniform. If they had acted against him for sound pollution, then who would questions the cops when they use the police siren.
