Namaaz is offered at Idgah during festivals. On Thursday the permission became a bone of contention as police felt it could cause trouble.

A large police contingent surrounded the Idgah and after consultations agreed that only women would pray.

The women in a joint statement said that the Babri masjid was not only of the mosque but that of the community’s faith and identity. They said that once there is a masjid there can only be another masjid.

For them their claim to Babri masjid will always remain the same and not change whatever the Supreme Court verdict.

The women said they had gathered to pray and boost their morale to rebuild the Babri masjid and punish those who demolished it.

After the prayers they dispersed peacefully but police vigil continued till late evening.
