- DC CORRESPONDENT

A proposal sent by the Cyberabad traffic police to cancel the licence of a drunk driver was approved by the licensing authority.

The accused, Kondaveeti Ashwin, was involved in a road crash which led to the death of motorcycle rider on November 24 last year at Khanamet crossroad under the Madhapur police limits. The pillion rider was severely injured.

Investigations revealed that Ashwin had a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) level 185mg/100ml against the legally permissible 30mg/100ml. Police found found that this was his third instance of drunken driving in 2019.

Subsequently, the Cyberabad traffic police sent a proposal in December to revoke Ashwin’s licence on the grounds that he is unfit to drive any kind of vehicle on public roads.

In response, the licensing authority, the RTA of Ranga Reddy district, suspended Ashwin’s driving licence permanently.

The Cyberabad traffic police advised motorists to follow traffic rules.

As per the directions of the Supreme Court committee on road safety, the driving licence of drunk drivers can be seized by police and forwarded to the RTA for action.
