CRPF Southern Sector, Hyderabad, observed on Friday the anniversary of Pulwama terror attack, wherein 40 CRPF personnel had laid down their lives.

On the occasion, the city CRPF sector also remembered the bravery of its 18 martyrs, including deputy commandant B. K. Shyam Nivas, head constables M. Obalesu, K. Venkanna, and M. C. M. Reddy, constables P. Veera Reddy, K. Chandra Shekhar Reddy, G. Narasimha, A. Vijay Bhaskar Reddy, C. Praveen, R. Govardhan Reddy, K. Ram Mohan and Godse Satish Goud. Family members of these 12 martyrs were felicitated on the occasion at the CRPF SS headquarters in Jubilee Hills. A two-minute silence was also observed.

Condemning the Pulwama attack, Inspector General (SS), CRPF, Hyderabad, M.R. Naik said that there were no martyrs from the Telugu states in that attack, not just the CRPF, but the entire nation stands with the families of the bereaved. He said in all, 63 CRPF personnel hailing from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have laid down their lives in line of duty since 1981. The number of martyrs at the all-India level was 2,201. “Whatever glory the CRPF has is only due to the sacrifices made by its personnel. The entire nation stands by families of the bereaved,” the IG said.

Recollecting the memories of Aleti Vijay Bhaskar Reddy, his father A. Prathap Reddy said his son was killed in a gunfight with Maoists at Metala forest in Goaltore of West Bengal on October 1, 2012. He had got married just a year ago and did not even have children. “I objected to Vijay getting into the armed forces, but he insisted. I still remember his words ‘anywhere I have to die... if death comes I will take it on duty’,” recalled Prathap Reddy. “My husband was killed in firing by Maoists at Padiguda village in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh. Our son was two years old when my husband sacrificed his life for the country,” said P. Susheela, wife of martyr P. Veera Reddy. Susheela wept while recollecting the memories of her husband and saluting his photo.
