- DC CORRESPONDENT

A woman pillion rider on a two-wheeler died when her sari pallu got caught in its rear wheel. The incident took place at JAC function hall Aatmakuuru in Yadadri Bhongir district when Pittala Saidulu and his wife Durga were returning home after attending a wedding on

Monday morning.

Aatmakuuru assistant sub-inspector M. Anjaneya said that Durga did not realise that her pallu was trailing behind her. It got stuck in the rear wheel hub and Durga was yanked off the vehicle and fell to the ground. This caused her husband who was driving the motorcycle to lose control and he too fell down.

Saidulu survived with minor injuries but Durga was badly injured on her neck and head. He called for an ambulance but it was the police who helped Saidulu take his wife to the Bhongir area hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.

The couple has two children aged eight and 10 who were at school when the tragedy occurred. “We have lost the most important person in our family. A mother is someone who carries every emotion at home. This can’t be digested by any one of us,” Saidulu said, weeping.

The victim was yanked off the bike when the sari got entangled in the bike’s rear wheel.
