29,000 students face shift as ChaiNa colleges close

- DC CORRESPONDENT

With Sri Chaitanya and Narayana educational institutions having to close down their branches in buildings without the No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the fire department, prospects of over 29,000 students may be at risk.

Managements of colleges facing imminent closure are, however, assuring their students that they would be accommodated in other branches of Narayana and Sri Chaitanya — a major educational institution in the state founded in the 1980s.

According to an estimate, there are about 29,800 students who got admitted into 68 colleges that lack fire NOCs. Students of the final year would pass out after their exams, but the future of first year students would be at stake. Their managements need to clarify what would be the fate of students who trusted in them.

Representatives of the corporate institutes told Deccan Chronicle, “We are trying to obtain the required no objection certificates. However, in case any of our branches faces closure due to lack of NOC, then the students would be shifted to nearby branches for the duration of the second year. No inconvenience will be caused to either students or parents,” one of the representatives said.

Meanwhile, parents say they were unaware that the particular college did not even have the fire NOC. “Even if students are shifted to other branches, they will find it difficult to adjust with new students. Wish we had known earlier that these institutes did not have the required certification,” lamented a parent on condition of anonymity.
