Illegal layouts, bad roads spoil Godavari Gardens

- — Dr S.C. Bhargava Founder President, Godavari Gardens Welfare Association (GGWA) 18, Godavari Gardens, Yapral, Secunderabad

My wife and I are senior citizens, aged 70 and 78 respectively, and have lived in this colony for over 20 years, and have been paying the property tax etc., every year. Ever since, there have been problems galore faced by us.

The road in front of the house, the “second parallel”, has not been laid/tarred since 2000, and dug up time and again for laying a pipeline etc., whilst the other roads were tarred long ago. Construction of buildings in the colony is going on in full swing, but apparently flouting the rules and requirements of the layout as approved by the GHMC, especially with regard to adhering to setback, mainly in front. This irregularity on the part of owners results in their cars being permanently parked on the road(s) as there is no porch or parking provided in the house(s). This causes great inconvenience to other residents.

Whilst the construction work is going on, the builders are constantly in the habit of encroaching on the road, using it as a dump yard for assorted building material and debris resulting in blockade of the road, causing great inconvenience to the movement of vehicles.

There is no proper drainage in the colony, post the initial makeshift drainage provided by the developer/promoter way back in 1997 that has become defunct, resulting in foul-smelling effluents flowing on the roads or in adjoining vacant plots.

Indiscriminate felling, chopping and uprooting of substantial trees in the colony continues for construction of buildings. Whether it is permitted by the GHMC or forest department is not known. There is no regular cleaning of the roads nor is there proper collection of garbage from the residences.
