OU paddlers second best, Dutee claims 200m gold

The Osmania University table tennis team had to settle for silver as they lost the title clash 1-3 to Chitkara University at the Khelo India University Games in Bhubaneswa­r on Sunday.

In the first match, SFR Snehit blanked India

No.8 Arjun Ghosh 3-0 to give Osmania University a solid start.

However, that was the lone rubber that Osmania managed to win as Md Ali lost to Ronit Banja 2-3, M. Raghuram went down to Jeet Chandra 0-3 as the scoreline read 2-1 in Chitkara’s favour.

Then, in a one-sided reverse singles rubber Snehit lost to Ronit Banja 1-3 as OU handed the title to their rivals.

Meanwhile, Dutee Chand won her second gold at the Games after bagging the top honours in the women’s 200m final on the last day of the event.

The 24-year-old, who is representi­ng Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, took the top place with a time of 23.66 seconds.

Kirti Vijay Bhoite from the University of Mumbai settled for silver with a timing of

24.98 while Deepali

Mahapatra from Utkal University took the bronze, clocking 25.19 seconds.

MAHESHWARI WINS STEEPLECHA­SE SILVER

Maheshwari Golla of the Palamuru University won silver in the women’s 3,000 metres steeplecha­se event.

With a timing of

10:41.90 seconds, the Andhra Pradesh girl took the second spot on the podium.

Savitribai Phule Pune University’s Komal Jagadale got gold with

10:26.63 seconds, while Shaili Dhama of the Panjab University settled for bronze with 11:23.08 seconds.

Panjab University pipped Savitribai Phule Pune University to be crowned overall champions of the Games while Mangalore University walked away with the title in athletics.
