Corporators should learn from CM: KTR
Municipal administration minister K. T. Rama Rao asked people of Khammam district to pay their taxes promptly if they wanted their urban local bodies (ULBs) to develop at a rapid pace.
While on a whirlwind tour of the district as part of the Pattana Pragathi programme, the minister asserted that the new municipal act will root out corruption in ULBs. For the purpose, permission for constructing houses on
75 square yards to 600 square yards has been made online.
Mr Rama Rao said the new municipal Act lays responsibilities not only on officials but also people. He pointed out that provisions have been made to take action against persons who throw garbage on streets and in drains. He underlined that it was the responsibility of every citizen to keep their municipality clean. For the purpose, they could segregate wet and dry waste before the municipality collects garbage from their houses.
The minister observed that it is incorrect to blame only citizens for streets being unclean. He said there must be a public toilet for every
1,000 people in the town. “That way Khammam needs 4,000 public toilets, 50 per cent of which should be for women,” he remarked.
Mr Rama Rao asked every corporator to learn from Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and work hard for a clean Khammam.
“Just the minister and MLA cannot do everything. Corporators too should join hands with them in making Khammam town clean and green,” he stated.
Mr Rao also inaugurated the integrated vegetable and meat market at the NSP colony in Khammam on the occasion.
He appreciated works taken up for widening of various roads and modernisation of the Gollapadu channel. He was also happy that the Gandhi Chowk was now free of traffic jams.
