Driving test takers given sanitisers to curb virus
Precautionary steps being taken at all transport department offices in Hyderabad
The transport department has started providing sanitizers to those who come for driving licence tests and to officers who test them, as part of preventive measures to fight the coronavirus (Covind-19) pandemic.
Such precautionary measures have been taken in all transport offices in the city – in Khairatabad, Secunderabad, Malakpet, Mehdipatnam, Bandlaguda and Nagole. The Hyderabad city police chief, however, has only called on police personnel to maintain good hygiene.
Transport officials have been provided masks and sanitisers. Higher officials of the transport department have told constables and officers who come directly in contact with citizens to wear masks.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Joint Transport Commissioner G. Panduranga Rao said, “Every day hundreds of people visit the RTA office to get their driving licence and other work done. As part of the procedure they have to give their thumb impression, signature and their picture at the camera point. Thus there are high chances of contracting the virus. As a precautionary measure we have provided sanitisers at every counter to clean hands before giving the thumb impression and signature and we ensure this is done.”
He said that with so many people visiting their offices the officers are also at risk and have been requested to wear masks and to be vigilant of their own hygiene. Hyderabad city police commissioner Anjani Kumar has requested police personnel to take their own precautions to maintain good hygiene to protect themselves from the virus. “If we are healthy and properly protected, we can serve the community better. These are testing times for us. Every minute of every police officer is for ensuring people’s health and safety,” Mr Kumar said.
He added that he has observed that there is a good partnership between the community and the police to check coronavirus.
