Varsities declare class shutdown
Universities in the city made official announcements on Monday on the suspension of classes.
Maulana Azad Urdu National University (MANUU) announced that it would suspend all classroom teaching across its
11 campuses, including its headquarters in Hyderabad, until March
31. It asked hostel students to go home by March 20.
Students will be provided online resources so that they may continue their academic work. The teaching staff, however, would continue to work while taking precautionary measures.
Elsewhere, the University of Hyderabad (UoH) has suspended all academic activities, including classes and examinations, until March 31. Students have been asked to return to their homes. Faculty members and non-teaching staff will continue to work as usual. The Academic Council meeting of the university scheduled for March 20, too, will be deferred. The vice-chancellor, however, said steps are being taken to keep admission-related proposals on track.
Osmania University took the decision to close all hostels and messes on the campus. Research scholars and other hostel students have been asked to evacuate immediately. Electricity and water supply to the hostels and messes will be disconnected from Tuesday.
