Jagan upset over weekend visits of IAS, IPS to Hyd

- DC CORRESPONDENT

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has become angry over IAS officers posted in the State flying to Hyderabad and other places every weekend without taking permission.

Several IAS officers have their families in Hyderabad. They head home every Friday evening and return to Vijayawada Monday morning. Some officers leave the work place Friday afternoon itself.

Jagan recently conducted a review meeting in which some officers were not present. On enquiry, he was told about the weekend visits of some IAS officers without taking permission from the government. In fact, some even go to New Delhi without any official work.

On coming to know of this, the infuriated Chief Minister directed the Chief Secretary Neelam Sahani to take immediate action. This was confirmed by officials of Chief Minister’s office (CMO).

Ms Sahani has issued a circular to all IAS officers in which she made it clear that no officer, Secretary or

HoD is to leave Vijayawada without prior clearance from the concerned authorities. She added that local body elections were round the corner, annual examinations were underway and there were other important matters that needed immediate personal attention.

She also said that Chief Minister wishes that visits of officers should be resultoriented and in the interest of the State.

Moreover, such work should be for a full-day and not something that can be finished in half-a-day.

The Chief Minister also objected to some IAS officers working from home and not visiting the Secretariat. Apparently, some are conducting review meetings at their residences. The government has mandated that all IAS officers should compulsorly work from the Secretariat.

Incidentally, when administration was shifted to Vijayawada from Hyderabad, officers used to take prior permission from the government to visit Hyderabad on weekends. Over a period of time, they have stopped informing the authorities.
