Couple locked up in flat in Thrissur

Neighbours suspicious of couple as they were back from Saudi

In a bizarre incident in Thrissur district, members of a local residents associatio­n locked up a couple in their flat suspecting they had Covid-19.

The couple had returned to Kerala from their work place in Saudi Arabia. The members of the associatio­n pasted a sticker “corona-infected” on the door of the couple’s flat.

Soon after the incident came to light, the Thrissur police swung into action and arrested the officebear­ers of the associatio­n.

According to police, Vinod and Indira who are employed in Saudi Arabia returned to Kerala on Sunday, went straight to their flat in Thrissur. Having arrived from Saudi Arabia, the couple reportedly underwent screening for Covid-19 at the Cochin Internatio­nal Airport.

The couple lodged a complaint with the local police which sent a team to the apartment and opened the flat. A case was registered against the officer-bearers of the residents associatio­n.

Cases were registered against two persons in Kozhikode district who violated instructio­ns of state government issued in connection with Covid19. The two persons who returned from abroad had been directed to undergo mandatory 28 days home quarantine. However, they violated the instructio­n following which notices which are equivalent to arrest, were slapped against them.

The police has come out with strong instructio­ns to those who returned from abroad during the last 28 days to immediatel­y report if they have not yet, to their nearest health authoritie­s. They could call on toll free numbers 1077 or 1056, or get in touch with the primary health centers.

The doctors of medical college hospital Thiruvanan­thapuram who treated an accident victim have been put under two week quarantine for Covid–19.

The person who sustained serious injuries in an accident in Kollam district on Sunday was under surveillan­ce for Covid–19. He was rushed to the hospital and treated at the casualty wing and emergency surgery unit of the hospital. After four days of quarantine, the patient had ventured out during which he met with the accident.

The doctors who were unaware of the Covid -19 quarantine status of the patient have been directed to undergo surveillan­ce for two weeks. The incident has also brought into focus the hazards faced by the doctors.
