PSG SUSPEND ALL SPORTING ACTIVITY

-

Paris, March 16: Paris Saint-Germain have suspended all sporting activities until further notice due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Ligue 1 leaders said on Sunday.

The French top-flight has already been put on hold as has the Champions League since last week due to the deadly spread of COVID-19.

“Sporting activities for all our professional clubs will remain provisionally suspended for a period starting tomorrow March 16 until an undetermined date,” the Ligue 1 champions said.

PSG had announced the freezing of all their sporting sections including football and handball until Sunday and will announce a further update on Wednesday.

Elsewhere in France, fellow Ligue 1 side Nice also stopped their activities and closed their training centre.

Earlier on Sunday, Lyon defended president JeanMichel Aulas after he had suggested wiping out the French season.

WTA SUSPENDS SEASON UNTIL MAY 2

The WTA Tour announced on Monday it was suspending the women’s tennis season until May 2 because of the coronavirus pandemic.

“At this point in time, the WTA Tour is now suspended until May 2,” a WTA spokesperson said.

“Due to the ongoing global coronavirus outbreak, the WTA tournaments in Stuttgart, Istanbul and Prague will not be held as scheduled.

“We will make a decision in the week ahead regarding the remaining WTA European clay court events and will continue to monitor this situation closely and its impact on the 2020 Tour season.” The ATP Tour last week put its season on hold until April 27.
