THUNDERSTORM EXPECTED OVER TELANGANA

- T.S.S. SIDDHARTH | DC

The pre-monsoon season has begun well in advance for the state, say officials of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). In this regard, the local weather office has issued a thunderstorm warning for the state for the next 48 hours.

In its warning it said: “Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning very likely to occur at isolated places over Telangana.’ According to officials of the department, there would be chances of light rainfall over the state; however, the thundering activity would be higher than the amount of rainfall.

“We had issued a thunderstorm warning, and we predict that there would be light rainfall, coupled with thunder activity over the state,” K. Naga Ratna, director, IMD told Deccan Chronicle. The rainfall was caused by a trough travelling over the state spanning northern Tamil Nadu to Vidarbha, she said.

Unusually, this year, these rains — pre-monsoon showers — had arrived on time. “This year, the showers began on the dot-on March 1-these showers were aiding in keeping the maximums in control, to an extent,” she said.

Speaking about the summer forecast, she said that the day time temperatures in the state, were on the rise. “Compared to the last 24 hours, the temperatures were on the rise. Every day we are witnessing a rise of one degree,” she said.
