GHMC TO SPRAY DISINFECTANT ACROSS CITY
The GHMC is all set to launch disinfectant spraying in the city as part of the civic body’s efforts to maintain hygiene and prevent spread of communicable diseases such as Covid-19.
This is being done as a matter of abundant precaution, GHMC’s Enforcement, Vigilance & Disaster Management (EV&DM) wing director Viswajit Kampati said on Thursday.
“We have people trained for this work in our disaster management team. They also received two-day training on spraying of the disinfectants and have protective body suits,” he said.
Though sanitation workers wearing full protective body suits and spraying streets have become a staple among videos shared during the peak of the coronavirus outbreak in China, the city itself is set to witness something similar, though on a smaller scale from Friday.
“The plan is to spray sterillium and sodium hypochlorite solutions on all public contact surfaces, such as bus shelters, railings, pavements and other public areas,” Mr Viswajit said.
Meanwhile, the GHMC said that as many as 230 notices have been issued by it till Thursday to malls, hyper markets, commercial establishments, gyms and educational institutions for flouting the State Government directives on shutting down operations, or installing personal hygiene materials such as hand sanitizers for visitors.
It may be recalled that the state government had on March 14 ordered the closure of all educational institutions, parks, theatres, museums, gymnasiums , bars and pubs, cultural events, sports events, conferences, workshops among others till the end of this month in a bid to prevent gathering of large numbers of people.
