No NPR even if dismissed: KCR

CM says state is firm on its stand

Chief Minister K. Chandrashe­kar Rao has unequivoca­lly stated that he will never allow conducting the National Population Register in its present form in the state. He told a delegation of ulema and mashayekh that he will not heed even if the Modi government imposes President’s Rule in the state.

The Chief Minister gave this assurance when a delegation of community organisati­ons under the leadership of MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi called on him on Thursday. They thanked the Chief Minister for passing a resolution against the Citizenshi­p Amendment Act, National Population Register and National Registry of Citizens in the Assembly and assured cooperatio­n in alleviatin­g the pandemic Covid-19.

It is learnt that the Chief Minister assured the delegation that the NPR will not be conducted in the state. He said the Union government can’t conduct the NPR without the cooperatio­n of the state government. “If we do not allow it, the Centre will not be able to conduct it. It can only impose President’s Rule and we are ready to face such extreme situation.”

Mr Owaisi said, “we hope that the Chief Minister will take necessary steps before April 1 to ensure a stay on the NPR.” He said the delegation thanked the Chief Minister for taking a firm stand against the NPR and appreciate­d the action taken by the state government to prevent the spread of the novel coronaviru­s disease.

Khan, president Jamaat-e-Islami; Moulana Hafiz Peer Shabbir Ahmed, state president Jamiat Ulema Hind (Mahmood Madani); Moulana Mufti Giyas ur Rahman, state president Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind (Arshad Madani), Moulana Hussamuddi­n Sani Jafar Pasha, Ameer, Amarat Millat-e-Islamia; Moulana Ahsan bin Mohammed al-Hamoomi, Khateeb, Royal Mosque; Mr Ziauddin Nayyar, vice president, Taamir-e-Millat; Moulana Nisar Hussain Hyder Agha, member, Wakf Board; Moulana Masood Husain Mujtahadi and the economist Aamirullah Khan were present at the meeting.
