Opp. hopes cross-voting in TRS will beat Kavitha
Opposition parties have been readying to show their impact in MLC byelections for the Nizamabad local authority constituency. Both Congress and BJP fielded their candidates against TRS nominee Kalvakuntla Kavitha.
Being the daughter of Chief Minister, K. Chandrashekar Rao, and a former MP, Ms Kavitha would have been elected MLC unopposed in Nizamabad. But the Opposition parties are firm to show their strength in the elections.
Of the 824 votes under the Nizamabad local authority constituency, TRS has 504, Congress, 141, BJP, 85, Independents, 66 and MIM, 28 votes. The TRS is confident that 504 votes as well as its ally MIM’s votes 28 will go to Mr Kavitha and her victory is certain. The ruling party is hopeful that independent candidates may also support Ms Kavitha’s candidature.
Opposition parties believe that cross voting from the TRS may benefit them. The BJP leadership, especially, feel that the MLC elections in Nizamabad district will show miraculous results. Internal bickering and dissatisfaction with the TRS leadership would benefit them in the polls, they believe.
On the other hand, TRS MLAs conducting camps with MPTC, ZPTC members, municipal corporators, councillors, voters in MLC elections. For a thumping majority for Kavitha, TRS MLAs in the district begin their efforts in their respective assembly constituencies.
Minister for R&B, housing and legislative affairs, V. Prashanth Reddy, said that people of Nizamabad realised that they have been “cheated” by defeating Kavitha in the last Lok Sabha elections. People are ready to support the leadership of Ms Kavitha for integrated development of Nizamabad district, he said on Thursday.
