Lockdown results in binge watching BOUGHT GROCERIES? TAKE A BATH PRONTO

Locked down in their homes, urban Indians seem to be spending the free time bingeing on web series.

According to a survey on over-the-top (OTT) content conducted by media consultanc­y group Ormax Media, 61 per cent of those surveyed (aged above 15 years) preferred web series. Only 21 per cent preferred watching movies, 13 per cent preferred news and the remaining five per cent watched “comedy clips”.

The survey also shone light on how the people are spending time at home in the past week. Around 60 per cent felt they were spending more time bonding with family. Around 57 per cent said they were spending more time on OTT content, 46 per cent on social media, 44 per cent on television and only 13 per cent on reading. As to TV watching habits, the survey found that people were spending 63 per cent more time watching news, indicating that they are glued to their TV screens watching news on the Covid-19 pandemic. Around 58 per cent were watching more movies on TV.

Hyderabad: Director of Public Health G. Srinivasa Rao appealed to the public to clean their phones regularly as they could be carriers of microbes. He also asked the people to take precaution­s after going out to buy groceries. “Please take a bath immediatel­y after you come home. Also, please don’t allow senior citizens and young children to go out of the home at any cost,” he said.
