Bandi wants another central team to see TS Covid status

- S.A. ISHAQUI | DC

BJP state president Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Saturday alleged that the state government had wilfully misled the interministerial team with regard to the facilities offered to Coronavirus patients treated.

In a letter to the secretary, ministry of home affairs, Sanjay requested another inter-ministerial team to be sent to the state to review the Coronavirus situation.

In his letter, the TS BJP chief said that from the day one of the committee’s visit, it was being reported in the newspapers that the committee was happy with the way the government had geared up to fight the pandemic and was implementing the treatment protocol.

He pointed out that “In fact, for certain political reasons, the Telangana state government hasn't been going for fullfledged tests, nor is it tracking secondary sources/contacts.”

He alleged that Telangana state had failed to take up fullfledged testing nor was it tracking secondary sources and contacts. He said the party has received complaints about the inadequate facilities at Gandhi Hospital which was converted into a Covid-19 hospital.

The BJP state chief said “There are issues related to inadequate bathrooms and they are not maintained following ICMR norms. Hygiene in the hospital premises is far below the mandate. Health professionals, including trained ones, are inadequate in number.”

Citing the case of one C.S. Sastry, Mr Sanjay said “We wish to bring to your notice a serious lapse in following Union government protocol. An 80-year-old man, C.S. Sastry, approached Gandhi Hospital on April

12 with a suspicion of Coronavirus. He was declared negative after the test. Four days later, he was declared positive when tested in another hospital (NIMS). Subsequently, he was admitted to Gandhi Hospital where he breathed his last on April

26.” However, the government didn't project his death in the reports of April 25, 26, 27and 28.

The death report clearly shows that he died of Coronavirus on April 26.”

He said “Meagre facilities are only one side of the story. The most important issue is the government’s non-serious attitude in tracking and testing patients in areas affected by Coronavirus. He pointed out that this gives room to suspect the intent of the government.

“Why does it want to show a small number of deaths and lesser number of cases,” Mr Kumar asked.
