KTR: Expedite infrastructure work
Municipal administration minister K.T. Rama Rao on Saturday directed officials to speed up the ongoing road work. He said this is the working season and everyone has to be proactive in completing works as the rains may come in June.
He reviewed the progress of work taken up by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal
Corporation (GHMC) in coordination with Hyderabad Road Development Corporation (HRDC) at Buddha Bhavan.
The minister said the government aims at making Hyderabad traffic congestion-free as it is the fastest growing city in India.
He informed that Telangana state has got recognition as the state which has best utilised the lockdown period. “Some more work will start in May,” he added. He instructed officials to get ready to complete works on time.
He said he hoped to expedite land acquisition issues where link roads work is taken up under packages. At the same time, he said humanitarianism shall prevail towards poor people and labourers who are evacuated,” he instructed officials.
Mr Rama Rao asked officials to provide rehabilitation to evacuated persons. He asked them to maintain a minimum 120 feet road width on roads that are being merged with link roads to national highways.
“In future these areas will be developed multi-fold with these roads,” he said. Coordination between HMDA and other wings on the Strategic Roads Development Programme and link roads is essential,” he said. He explained that the works should be taken up in such a way that it caters to future needs.
The minister announced that the Hyderabad city master plan will be updated soon, keeping in view the requirement that land should be acquired and road work is to be taken up, he said.
Mr Rama Rao instructed officials to acquire lands required on a war footing to complete ongoing railway underpasses, railway over bridges and other new projects. He also said that there was no dearth of funds for land acquisition.
