India’s Covid cases cross 50,000

A 31-year-old Delhi Police constable was among 128 persons who have died due to novel coronaviru­s infection in the last 24 hours while 4,176 fresh cases were detected on Wednesday taking the tally of cases past 52,559.

The newly detected cases include 154 from Border Security Force (BSF). These include more than 60 deployed for law and order duties in the Jamia and Chandni Mahal area in Delhi, and six from the escort team of the interminis­terial central team (IMCT) that toured West Bengal to check COVID-19 containmen­t measures in the state.

In view of rising infections and to meet domestic demand, the government has banned export of alcohol-based hand sanitisers.

So far 33,514 persons under treatment while 14,183 have been discharged. In the last one day, 1,456 persons have been discharged.

According to PTI, total number of cases is 49785 while have been discharged 14046 and 1632 died. Around 70 police personnel in Delhi have been infected by the Covid-19. The young constable who died was asymptomat­ic and had no symptoms till Monday evening. However, by late night he developed high fever and difficulty in breathing. He was first taken to one private hospital and later to a government hospital where he was declared brought dead. This sudden developmen­t in his health condition has alarmed many particular­ly those in police and healthcare.

Delhi government on Wednesday ordered release of about 4,000 Tablighi Jamat members who have completed their required quarantine period in various centres in the national capital. Out of these around 900 are from Delhi while rest are from TN and Telangana.
