The Telangana medical and health joint action committee (JAC) on Wednesday declared that it was government doctors at the forefront of the battle against Covid-19 in the state and questioned a complaint lodged with the central government’s inter-ministerial committee about Covid-19 management in the state by doctors representing the doctors for seva organisation. The JAC representatives said the complaint was an affront to the hard work being put in by state government doctors, medical staff and other personnel working hard to control Covid-19 in the state.

Addressing a press meet here, the JAC convener and president of the Telangana government doctors association, Dr Putla Srinivas, said “The state government was fully following the directions and guidelines issued by the Centre and that the JAC takes a serious view of the complaint that was designed to portray the doctors, medical personnel and the state government in a poor light.”

He also severely criticised the private healthcare sector saying “Not a single private hospital has come forward to treat Coronavirus patients. Though we in the government sector are not facing any problems in the availability of PPEs, masks and other protection equipment, the group comprising private doctors, claimed that Telangana government doctors were suffering because of the lack of such equipment.”

The JAC, he said, will not tolerate “such unfounded attacks,” on government healthcare staff and added that “the state government was fully supportive and was ensuring that any problem or challenge faced by the medical staff is being immediately attended to and solved.”

Clearly offended, he added “If we have any issues, we will take them to the notice of the state government and get them solved,” he said.

Among those who addressed the media were the JAC chairman, Dr Bongu Ramesh, secretary general, Venkateswara Reddy, and JAC chief advisor, J. Rajendar.
