Dalit minor raped, youth arrested

● THE ACCUSED allegedly raped her and when she screamed for help, the victim’s cousin who lives in neighbouring house, rushed to her rescue.

A 16-year-old Dalit girl was allegedly raped by 25year-old man on Tuesday late at night. The accused barged into the victim's residence and raped her. When she screamed for help, the neighbours rushed and rescued her.

According to Chanderghat police on Tuesday at around 2 am, the accused entered the victim's residence by scaling the compound wall and barged into her room while she was sleeping.

The accused allegedly raped her and when she screamed for help, the victim’s cousin who lives in neighbouring house, rushed to her rescue.

When the victim’s cousin entered, he saw the accused in the residence. Later, the victim informed her cousin that the accused was harassing her in the name of love and demanding her for sexual favours for some months now. She rejected his proposal and all his advances. Holding a grudge, the accused hatched a plan to rape her. When victim’s cousin confronted him, the accused abused him incasteist terms and said that he will marry her although she is from lower caste and abused all her family members in casteist terms

When the neighbours dialled 100, he escaped from the spot. On Wednesday, the victim’s relatives lodged a complaint with Chanderghat police. Joint commissioner of police (east zone), M. Ramesh, said that based on the complaint lodged by the girl’s parents, a case under Sections 448,376,506 of IPC, sections 3 and 4 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and Section 3 (2) (v) of SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act was registered against the accused. He was arrested and will be produced before court.
