Most IT staff preferred WFH

- ADITYA CHUNDURU I DC

There was hardly any change in the attendance at IT companies in the city on Monday. The Telangana state government has allowed IT companies to resume operations with a maximum of 33 per cent workforce.

However, it seemed most employees chose to work from home like they have for the past couple of months. The roads of the West Zone of the city, which houses the IT zone, were as empty as they have been since the end of March.

Most companies have issued no instructions to their employees about reporting for work. Some companies, including MNCs have already told employees work-from-home orders would stay until July.

IT secretary Jayesh Ranjan said they had seen a “minute”increase in the workforce on Monday. Many companies have said they are willing to stay at home till the end of this month, he said. “Even if when employees start coming to offices, companies will not straightaway bring in 33 per cent of their workforce. It will be done gradually,” he said.

Mr Ranjan said it would take until the end of May to see a rise in attendance. “Even then it could still be lower than 33 per cent. Many companies have global instructions in place for their employees, mandating work-from-home based on factors such as the number of infections in their location and so on. This is also a factor here,”he said.
