Cops deny permit for Talib procession

- ATHER MOIN | DC

The police has denied permission for the procession to mark the martyrdom of Syed Ali ibn-e-Abi Talib on Ramzan 20 from the Charminar to Kohe Moula Ali due to the lockdown.

Mr Syed Ali Jafery of Shia Companions said that a meeting of religious scholars of the Shia community was held with South Zone additional DCP Syed Rafeeq and Mir Chowk ACP B. Anand and it was decided not to carry out the procession.

The police officials stated that as per GO Ms No. 64 dated May 1, and the Union home ministry Order No. 403/2020, all religious congregations are prohibited during the lockdown. They advised them to avoid the gathering on that day, which was accepted by the representatives.

The martyrdom falls on May 14 this year. The Shia community observes this incident of grief at a mass level from the 18th to the 20th of Ramzan and takes out a procession from Charminar to Kohe Moula Ali every year on Ramzan 20.

Meanwhile Dargah Kohe Moula Ali mutawalli Zaheer Ahmed Khan addressed a letter to the station house officer of the Malkajgiri police, intimating him that he is not in a position to persuade the devotees not to visit to the dargah because their insistence may create problems.

He requested the officer to keep a strict vigil on the movement of devotees during the three days.
