India has more Covid cases than China

5,000 cases, 100 deaths in one day

THE CENTRAL Industrial Security Force is getting ready for the partial resumption of flights and the Delhi Metro from Monday, when the lockdown’s fourth phase will begin.

With more than 100 deaths and over 5,000 fresh cases in one day, India on Friday recorded over 83,000 cases of coronaviru­s.

According to www.worldomete­rs.inf o/coronaviru­s/, the total number of cases in China stand at 82,933 on Friday.

While union health ministry’s Friday early morning data, which is essentiall­y late Thursday evening figures, said total cases were 81,970 with 100 fresh deaths and 3,967 new cases, PTI summed total positive cases to 82,885. However, by late evening Coronaviru­s data tracking site

covid19ind­ia.org said the total cases were

83,072 (a jump of 5070 cases in a day) and new

113 deaths since

Thursday.

Among those who have tested positive in the last 24 hours include an Indian Army soldier posted at New Delhi’s Sena Bhawan and 13 foreign returnees in Kerala under Vande Bharat mission.

The death toll in Delhi reached 123 while total number of cases were 8,895 on Friday.

Contact tracing and quarantine has begun after a soldier tested positive and the building has been closed for sanitation and disinfecti­on. A Group of union Ministers met on Friday to discuss the challenges before various states and Union territorie­s arising from the returning migrant labourers and the returnees from abroad.

Sources said the Central paramilita­ry force, that is tasked with providing security at all major airports and the Delhi Metro, was looking at the possibilit­y of starting some flights with about 50 per cent capacity while for the Delhi Metro it is expected to be around 30 per cent.
