Test all residents in containmen­t zones, suggests Kishan

Union minister of state for home G. Kishan Reddy argued that Covid-19 tests should be done on all residents of containmen­t zones.

In an online interactio­n with state media persons from Delhi, the minister said a lot of the cases were appearing in urban areas. He said companies in Hyderabad, Pune and Gujarat were conducting research to find a drug for Covid-19. He said that even the Centre was not interested in prolonging the lockdown, indicating that it could come to an end after May 31.

The minister said the Centre would be setting up separate TV channels for Classes 1 to 12 to facilitate students’ education.

On the economic package, he said, “We have announced a package worth `20 lakh crore to tackle financial difficulti­es. The prime minister is making decisions with tough measures while many countries are struggling,” he said.

On the push for self sufficienc­y, he said, “Even after 70 years, we are importing weapons from other other countries. If we allow FDI to make them in India, is it wrong?”

Mr Reddy said that the Centre was making all arrangemen­ts to send guest workers home. “The Centre is ready to run any number of trains. How many workers are there, this a matter for the states to decide,” he said.

He added that Ayushman Bharat scheme would be extended to guest workers. “The scheme will also be extended for Corona treatment at private hospitals,” he said.

Mr Reddy assured that Singareni Collieries would not be privatised. On FRBM restrictio­ns, the minister said they were in imposed for financial discipline. “Not all states adhere to FRMB restrictio­ns. Some have asked for an exemption,” he said.

Mr Reddy added that he was focusing on Secunderab­ad, his Lok Sabha constituen­cy, for two hours a day.
