300 students of Manuu stranded
About 300 students of Maulana Azad National Urdu University (Manuu) stranded in their hostels fear that they will not be able to celebrate the forthcoming Id with their parents.
A large number of students, including girls, belonging to various states, have been forced to remain on Manuu campus despite vacations. This is because they could not leave due to cancellation of trains and ban on inter-state movement of private vehicles after declaration of the lockdown. The university had declared holidays from March 17 and trains stood cancelled from March 22. Accordingly, students who had booked their tickets for journey on or after March 22 have got stuck at the campus.
Boys’ hostel provost Prof. Ehtesham Ahmed Khan has prepared a list of stranded students and submitted the same to the nodal officer at Cyberabad Commissionerate as also SHO Raidurg on May 1. But authorities are yet to arrange transport for students due to lack of coordination between the authorities and students.
President of Manuu Students’ Union Shaik Umar Farooq Quadri said
206 students have registered their names so far, while many students have not yet done so. He said the government of Jammu and Kashmir has arranged a special vehicle for 33 Kashmiri students and they will leave the city on Monday night. Travel arrangements for other students at the campus have not yet been finalised.
Shaik Umar Farooq said
115 students from Bihar have registered their names for travel while those from Delhi, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarkhand and West Bengal would also like to leave for their homes. He requested the Telangana government to intervene and ensure that all students celebrate the forthcoming Id with their family members.
