Ordinance issued for pvt varsities

The Telangana government on Wednesday issued an Ordinance No

1 paving the way for establishm­ent of private universiti­es in the state. The state government had already enacted the Telangana State Private Universiti­es (Establishm­ent and Regulation) Act,

2018 (Act NO.11 of

2018). According to Section

10 of the Act NO.11 of

2018, if the Government is satisfied that the Sponsoring Body has complied with the conditions of the Letter of Intent and on the specific recommenda­tions of the Expert Committee, it can include the names of the private universiti­es in the schedule with details of their location by amending the schedule.

According to sources in the education department, the expert committee which was constitute­d to examine the letters of intent and compliance report by the sponsoring bodies has already recommende­d establishm­ent of private varsities in the state. The state government constitute­d the Cabinet Sub-Committee in April to examine all issues in connection with establishm­ent of private universiti­es as per the Act 2018.

The cabinet sub-committee has recommende­d the establishm­ent of five universiti­es and accordingl­y the state

government decided to include the following private universiti­es as per Section 3 and 10 of the Act 2018.

Accordingl­y the government issued the Telangana State Private Universiti­es (Establishm­ent and Regulation) (Amendment) Ordinance, to include Mahindra University at Bahadurpal­ly in Medchal-Malkajgiri district, Woxsen University in Sadasivape­t, Mallareddy University in Maisammagu­da, Dhulapally MedchalMal­kajgiri district, S R University at Ananthasag­ar in Warangal district and Anurag University at Venkatapur in MedchalMal­kajgiri district.

While notifying the Ordinance, the state government said that the Ordinance will come into force with immediate effect.
