KTR releases fund to help weavers

HE MENTIONED that the government has not only allocated a major share in the budget but has also initiated various programmes and schemes to create a demand for their products.

IT and industries minister K.T. Rama Rao has decided to release the weavers’ money that has accrued under the thrift scheme (Nethannaku Cheyutha) well before the lock-in period of three years to give needed succour to the weavers during the Covid19 pandemic.

He instructed the officials to ensure money goes into the hands of the weavers as soon as possible on Saturday.

While reviewing the handloom industry and weavers’ hardships during the lockdown, he explained that the weavers have saved

`31 crore and the government added `62 crore as its share in the scheme and the decision to release the amounts without reference to the lock in period will benefit about 26,500 weavers in the state.

Each weaver now can access an amount anywhere between `50,000 and ` 1,25,000.

The government will also release another `1.18 crore to weavers in cooperativ­e societies which have enrolled and completed an earlier savings scheme.

Ram Rao stated that the state government has been supporting the weavers from the inception of the state. He mentioned that the government has not only allocated a major share in the budget but has also initiated various programmes and schemes to create a demand for their products.

Rama Rao also reviewed the status of the production of Bathukamma sarees to be distribute­d during the Dasara festival, work on the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park and Hyderabad Pharma City.
