Uttam vows to protect OU land
Stop encroachments on varsity land, state Congress president tells TS govt
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy has warned of serious consequences if even an inch of land belonging to Osmania University is encroached upon by anyone.
He was speaking to media persons after visiting DD Colony and inspecting lands belonging to OU that are being allegedly encroached. The state Congress chief was accompanied by CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, former PCC president V. Hanumantha Rao, TPCC working president Ponnam Prabhakar, AICC secretaries Ch. Vamshichand Reddy and A. Sampath Kumar, and others. The Congress leaders interacted with OU students and teachers, and assured them that Congress will take up an agitation to protect OU lands.
Uttam Kumar Reddy demanded that the state government immediately stop construction activities illegally taken up on lands belonging to Osmania University by private persons. He wanted a high-level probe into the encroachments and stern action against all those involved.
The TPCC president said instead of strengthening universities, Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao’s approach is damaging them all over the state. He said KCR is afraid of students and their agitations. Therefore, he is sabotaging universities in a systematic manner. These institutions have been starved of funds, faculty and other facilities. Many universities do not have full-fledged vice-chancellors. He said the TRS government has now let land grabbers loose to encroach upon lands and properties belonging to universities, especially Osmania University.
He alleged the Chief Minister holds a grudge against OU as he was denied opportunity to speak during its centenary celebrations.
The state Congress chief warned of serious consequences if anyone tries to encroach upon lands belonging to Osmania University or other institutions.
He urged OU students, teachers and staff to jointly agitate against the encroachments. He said that Congress party will also represent to Governor on the issue.
